2017 SHAB SHAB Project

Cultural Exchange with Local University & High School Students

★Program Overview:

The Republic of China (Taiwan) has long worked cooperatively with the Kingdom of Swaziland. With this specific project, Flyoung wishes to deepen the ties with the local Swazi people through involving them in our projects. Apart from providing growing opportunities for both teams, this program would allow the modification of current projects and inspiration for future projects.

★Objectives:

The objectives of the program are to ultimately inspire local students to take initiative in improving their own country. It is almost as if we are cultivating social workers that would contribute to the well-being of Swaziland in the future. For instance, local students have the ability to closely monitor the fire stoves that Flyoung build during the summer. Thus, Flyoung wants to collaborate with local students to ensure the continuity of the fire stove project, and further push it to the next level.

2017 Winter Camp

★Background:

Most of the NGOs we work with in Swaziland revolve around the care for children. Education is a vital component of the development of a country. Hence, we propose a winter camp to combine education with fun, with the hope to engage the children in a different learning experience. During the winter camp, we intend to organize activities such as science experiments, reading sessions, introduction of the world atlas, learning about Taiwan, making DIY T-shirts etc. We hope that through these activities we can strengthen our bond with the children, let them learn more about Taiwan in the hope of achieving cultural interaction. Lastly, we also hope that they can learn scientific knowledge and more importantly, the spirit of working with others.

★Objectives:

  1. To teach the children scientific knowledge through simple science experiments and games

  2. To engage the children in English learning and cultivate reading habits through storybook reading sessions

  3. To let the children learn about the world and Taiwanese culture and hence achieving cultural interaction by introducing the world atlas and Taiwan

  4. To let the children be able to explore their creativity and design their own unique shirt through DIY T-shirt designing

INTERVIEWS: Dialogues with International Service Group

★Background:

Back to the most basic way of passing stories –telling and listening, we want to initiate a conversation which will bring us together. Us - including the service provider from within the country and outside the country. As a student-formed international service group, we have much to listen, watch and learn. We are curious about the foundation of different facilities giving help in Swaziland, what they see in themselves, and their spirit.

★Objectives:

  1. To know the goals and values of different NGOs providing service in Swaziland

  2. To learn from the past experience of NGOs

  3. To create more opportunities of further cooperation

★Scope:

To initiate an in-person interview, first, we will send interview invitation to NGOs. According to the background of NGOs, we will come up with a list of questions that we want to know about them. We set a date and time for each interview, which won’t last for more than 2 hours. During the interview, there will be 1-2 interviewers, with 1 taking notes with the computer and 1 with a recorder. We’ll type down the dialogues then publish it online or printed, whichever the interviewees agree to.
